In 2015, Las Vegas and the broader Southern Nevada region achieved "functional zero" for veteran homelessness—a significant milestone indicating that the number of veterans experiencing homelessness was fewer than the community could house in an average month. This accomplishment was the result of coordinated efforts among local agencies, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and nonprofit organizations, following a structured approach that included identifying all homeless veterans by name, ensuring immediate shelter availability, and providing swift access to permanent housing. As of early 2025, approximately 69 veterans in Clark County had spent at least one night in a shelter over a 90-day period, highlighting the ongoing need for resources and support to assist veterans in transitioning to permanent housing.
